Summer Camp - Lake Windermere

Eye-wink Saturday - High Expectations
I arose from my warm comfortable bed in the early hours of the morning on Saturday the 16th, very tired, grouchy, but also exited about the camp! I met a group of fellow tired teenagers who couldn’t pronounce sentences with more that three syllables and exchanged greetings in the casual form of: Heyyy, Yooo ookkk, and Waassuupp. We headed off on the long-ish journey to the lake district, which apparently only has one lake!? As I arrived at the Great Tower campsite at Lake Windermere, I saw two towers, which weren’t great, but more like, slightly large towers. With my views of the camp diminishing, the minibus stopped, and I walked the first hike of the day, a route which I would come very familiar with in the next week. Often too familiar with when I occasionally fell flat on my face. Moving on, we began the long and *arduous task of setting up camp, not my favourite part of camp but it has to be done!

Sunday - High Hike
On Sunday, we went on our hike, I saw a lot of amazing sights, and I’m not talking about Andy in his Kilt! I enjoyed the semi rock climbing and crossing the rivers, also the orange mushrooms and the waterfalls. Even after all the moaning and the complaining everyone enjoyed the views and the feel afterwards when we sat down and had a snack. Even if it was overpriced and too ‘sugary’ apparently. Thank you Coggy for organising it!

Monday - High Rides
Definitely one of my highlights of the camp was Blackpool Pleasure Beach. The first ride we went on was the Ice Blast, which shot us up and down, and then we went on to a horror maze, and we pretty much rode all the decent rides there! And some of the crappy ones! My favourite rides were The Big One, Infusion, Grand National, Irn Bru Revolution, Big Dipper, Oh screw it I loved all of them! Unfortunately I missed what sounded like an amazing show, and also one of the rides was closed, but we still had an awesome day! Apparently so did Grayham, Andy, and Paul who had some stories to tell. I will elaborate no more on that subject!

Tuesday - High Jumps
Known as being the highest go ape in England, I was looking forward to this day! After entrapping some wasps then beating them down, and having the always boring safety chat, and a practise (Which included mucho Slip Fall Die chanting). The group set off. The first person to go on the first course, was some random guy who we didn't know, and believe me he seemed happy to be there. Maybe a bit too happy. Anyways, moving on we all did really well on go ape, with even some of the more nervous of the group exceeding expectations. I especially enjoyed hearing the vocal tones of fully grown men reduced to what sounded like a honey badger entangling it’s testicles in a bicycle chain. Some of the more embarrassing cries coming from Sam and Mike. I still don’t know whether it was true fear that caused it or the very tight harnesses… Some of us braved the all almighty Tarzan swing, and we were looking forward to seeing what the big course would end with. Unfortunately it was just a crappy zip wire and a little banner that said, ‘Well Done’. The disappointing ending didn’t dampen our spirits, and we were all (Well mainly the boys) Cheered up by the lovely ladies who served us at the stall. I myself bought three items…

Wednesday - High ropes, and low ones!
Today personally wasn’t my favourite day, as we didn't have many exiting activities. I think if I remember rightly, we did have spaghetti bolognaise though, so that must have been MY highlight of the day Laughing out loud

Thursday - High winds?
Well I’m starting to run out of headlines for my days so don’t criticise my title, they will all go downhill from here! This day was definitely my favourite day, as sailing is something I enjoy a lot XD. It’s a shame Alex wasn’t there to see our valiant efforts on the sailing boats, and I think Me and Marley did quite well getting both of us on what should be a single handed boat, and not sinking it. Several times we almost did, but not completely! After a slight initial panic over whether or not one of the boats should be filling up, we set off! Well if you call bobbing slowly about in the pouring rain setting off… it was only in the afternoon we caught some proper wind, and had a good race! We all enjoyed it, despite Marleys screams of terror whenever the boat almost capsized, and I hope our unit can organise some sort of sailing week where you can all see how brilliant I am at it Eye-wink.

Friday - High Spirits (I told you they wouldn’t get any better)
This final day of activities was quite a good one, it got off to a bit of a boring start, as we all got used to the boat. But as soon as we ditched the treasure hunt and headed towards the nearest beach, it all got a lot more enjoyable! We went swimming, some of us not by choice… and had some water fights in the freezing lake! And then we canoed off to some island, supposedly infested by badgers? I didn’t see any, but I was Very cautious as I went to the loo!

Saturday - Bye
We said goodbye to a great, exiting, fun, friendly week, and also goodbye to Charlie the unicorn.

High-Lights:
I think my highlights of the week were… Sailing on the lake, Riding at Blackpool, jumping off things at Go Ape, Phoneing Stu, Making you all lose the game (I just did it again), and generally being around some of the most amazing people I know Sticking out tongue

Thanks to all the leaders who helped us along, and set things up, and did things when we couldn’t! And thanks to everyone who went who made it really great!!!
