Lake Windermere

Compared to Harry's essay im going to keep mine short and snappy and just talk about the highlights of each day at camp!

Saturday:
The trip to Lake District was sooooo boring plus the minibus managed to make it there faster than us which was amazing! The only good thing was that I didn’t have to wake up at the crack of dawn to get there as I was one of the advanced party however the downfall was putting up the tents for the night in pitch black.

Sunday:
We went hiking and Andy told me to wear my shorts so I wore my shortest shorts just as he asked and ended up looking naked for the whole hike. The struggle up the hill was tiring as Libby and I were lagging behind but as we got to the top we jumped inside the orange mushrooms to stay dry from the rain and ate our squidgy sandwiches. Marley and Dan got invested on a grassy peak and apparently Ben thought they were going to take part in Giraffe related activities. When we completed our day hike we got some hot chocolates and cake at the nearby tearoom and then we all took pictures of Abi before heading home.

Monday:
Our trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach! We went on various rides starting off with the Haunted House and then we went on some horse ride which crippled my back for the whole day. Later on I went on The Big Dipper which was absolutely hilarious because some person with a fat head was in front so I couldn’t see when the drops were making my stomach lurch every time. We also saw some “family” show which contained 4 singers which were more like 4 strippers who had broken free from the local lap dancing club (Too Harry’s enjoyment). Andy, Graham and P.C. Paul also got a rubbish tattoo and were late so we drove round in the parking lot whilst they chased us drunkenly. Today was also the day that we adopted Charlie the unicorn, which flew along with us on the minibus.

Tuesday:
Go Ape!!! I expected to be freaked out as it is highest one in England but no I was absolutely fine and considering I usually bottle out by the time we get to the barrels I was proud to make it to the rope swing as well as to have the guts to take the plunge ! I really enjoyed Go Ape and it was probably one of my favourite activities as everyone was supporting everyone the whole way through especially on the rope swing and nearly everyone managed to make it apart.

Wednesday:
Today half the group went tree climbing and zip wiring whereas the other group had a go at the low ropes which probably didn’t seem much of a challenge after yesterday’s height of Go Ape. The group I was in took part in the tree climbing where we worked in teams of 3. One person would act as a weight on the end of the rope as well as keeping the rope tight so nobody fell and the other person made sure the slack was taken up. Everyone did really well especially Ben as he has a fear of heights but still he made a great effort on the easy and hard climbs. Tom managed to make it to the top of the hard climb but this was kind of understandable as he’s done it all before. After that we went on the zip wire which passed over the small lake. This wasn’t as good as the Go Ape zip wires but still fun watching everyone make weird positions whilst going down and of course the Banshee wail at the end!

Thursday:
Oh my gosh! Sailing! I have to admit sailing was actually so fun! I have never before gone sailing and dreaded the thought of stepping foot on a sailing boat but that’s now all changed. In the morning we were shown how to control the boats with one person clinging on for dear life round the mast whilst the other controlled the boat. Libby was great at showing me what to do and it helped that she had been on a holiday where she did quite a bit of sailing. We played Quidditch which was fun because everyone was screaming and throwing balls at each other plus the ducks were cute. The wind didn’t really pick up until the afternoon where it got even more hilarious. Libby and I worked out a technique to make us go faster and it ended up making the front of the boat dip in the water making the boat fill up with water, tipping and threatening to capsize us. We had a race as well which was good until Abi and Richard collided with us when we were 2nd putting us down to 4th at the end. We returned back to shore wet and cold but it was worth it considering how much fun we had.

Friday:
This was probably one of my least favourite activities canoeing. I didn’t really understand the name considering it was a long boat not a canoe but oh well. We got off to a tiring start and followed the treasure map round the different points of the lake. We then beached jumped out the boat and Katie and I took first plunge into the freezing cold lake. After that we got back onto the boats we wanted to go on and set off on our treasure hunt again however our group decided to ditch the map as it seemed rather tedious so we ended up jumping on some random island. Marley, Harry, Tom and I jumped off the boat and I made out that there were badger sets on the island however they didn’t exist because I made them up lol. After getting off the badger infested island and back on the boat we then realised that because Graham had been rocking the boat singing drunkenly that he had managed to jam us between two rocks, so we struggled to unhook the boat and then set off back to shore.

Saturday:
We packed up our stuff, realeased Charlie into the wild and when everyone had left I managed to catch a vole which everyone nearly trod on when I dropped it and a toad which kept smiling.
